The signatures of five Toronto players are also present: Don Griffin, Connie Johnson, Rudy Minarcin, Lew Morton and Ed Stevens. Johnson, who died in 2004, was one of the best pitchers in the Negro Leagues. The signatures are bold, mint 9s and gem mint 10s. Schacht’s signature is on the front end-page of My Own Particular Screwball, his “informal autobiography.” The autograph is personalized to “Bucky,” and in the inscription that follows, Schacht writes, in part, “You made a great pitcher out of me in 1919. You never got a hit off me.” The ballpoint signature, dated Aug. 7, 1958, is a mint 9. The book, a 1955 first edition missing the dust jacket, is vg-ex. Great Washington item!
