Lot 89. Ticket Stubs from Roberto Clemente’s Last 5 Games + 2 Related NLCS Programs. Clemente’s Hall of Fame career came to a close in the 1972 N.L. Championship Series between the Pirates and Cincinnati. In five games, the Reds earned the right to play for the World Championship. Less than three months later, on Dec. 31, 1972, “the Great One” died in a plane crash en route to Nicaragua to deliver aid to earthquake victims. We believe this is the first time all five ticket stubs and a program from each city have been offered together. In Game 2 at Three Rivers Stadium, Clemente collected his final home RBI. Riverfront Stadium in Cincinnati was the site of the final three games. Clemente had a double in Game 3. In Game 4, he ruined Ross Grimsley’s chance for a perfect game by collecting the Pirates only two hits, including his final home run. A single in Game 5 was his final hit. The unscored program for the games in Pittsburgh is ex-m. The ticket stub for Game 1 is nm, and for Game 2, ex-m. The program for Cincinnati is scored for Game 3 and ex+. The stubs for all three Cincinnati games are g-vg.
Winning Bid $218.
