The stitching inside the collar reads “Berra 79 2.” This ex-m to nm jersey has the Yankees’ logo on the front and lucky number 8 on the back. A black arm band sewn onto the left sleeve of the jersey honors Thurman Munson.

Lot 205. Rare 1930s Hanna Batrite Double Knob Fung Bottle Bat. Cinncinati Reds lead-off hitter Heinie Groh may have been the first to use a bottle bat. Writers and historians have since given it various names: “bottle bat,” “bottle club” or “Heinie Groh bat.” They agree that what this style of bat lacked in grace or whip, it made up for in good wood. This Hanna Model B-50 features a scarce, unique double knob with original handle, taping and patina. The markings are faint but readable, including “choke here” just above the handle. The words “Official Bottle Bat” are stamped near the end of the 33 ½” ex bat. The bat is used, in nice shape and has a small chip at the top end and the initials H.L. marked in black.
