Lot 193. 1935 National Theatre Program for “Declassee” Signed by Ethel Barrymore. A member of the famous Barrymore acting family, Ethel was a charismatic stage actress who achieved success in the movies as well. She appeared in such plays as Shakespeare’s “Romeo and Juliet,” Ibsen’s “Doll House” and Maugham’s “The Constant Wife.” Appearing in her first movie in 1914, she was still in demand in supporting roles in the 1940s and early 1950s. In 1944, she earned the Oscar for Best Supporting Actress as Cary Grant’s mother in “None But the Lonely Heart.” She died in 1959. In 1935, she starred in “Dclass” at the National Theatre in Washington, D.C. In fountain pen, she signed the cover of the program. Her signature is a 10. Karl Nielsen, the play’s director, also signed.
