Lindbergh landed in Paris to complete the first solo non-stop flight across the Atlantic. On June 11, he returned to the U.S. That afternoon, at a reception on the grounds of the Washington Monument, President Calvin Coolidge awarded him the nation’s first Distinguished Flying Cross.
