Team and Multi-Signed Baseballs   12 Lots

Lot 17.  1960 Columbus Team Ball Signed by 3 Deceased Members of the 1960 Pittsburgh Pirates. Official International League baseball autographed by Jim Umbricht (died 1964), Diomedes Olivio (d. 1977) and Tom Cheney (d. 2001). The Columbus Jets were the Pirates’ AAA farm team. Among members of the Pirates’ championship team, the signatures of Umbricht and Olivio are perhaps the two most difficult to obtain. The ball is signed also by Larry Shepard, the Jets’ manager, Roman Mejias, Bobby Veale (unusual form), Charlie Leonard, Jack Lamabe, Al McBean, Donn Clendennon, John Schaive, Ed Spezio, Don Rowe, Tom Parsons, Don Leppert, Larry Elliott, Al Jackson, Dick Gray and John Powers. Excep-tionally clean ball with very readable stampings showing moderate wear. The autographs in green ballpoint are generally 8s with some less. Authenticated by Kevin Keating.
Winning Bid $200.

Lot 19.  ONL Feeney Baseball Signed by 23 1972 Pittsburgh Pirates - Maz, Stargell, Etc/ Joe Morgan, the coach, dates this ball as a product of the 1972 season. As he often did, Willie Stargell signed only his last name. Bill Mazeroski, Manny Sanguillen (last name only), Dock Ellis and Bob Moose (died 1976) are other key names. The complete list of signers: Alley, Bartirome, Blass, Briles, Clines, Ellis, Giusti, Hebner, Jackie Hernandez, Ramon Hernandez, Johnson, Kison, Leppert, Mazeroski, Moose, Morgan, Oceak, Oliver, Robertson, Sanguillen, Stargell, Walker and Zisk. The ball, possibly game-used, is nm. The signatures are bold 10s in green ink. Authenticated by Kevin Keating. Extremely nice team baseball.
Winning Bid $148.

Lot 132.  OAL 1939 Ball Signed by Rookie Early Wynn, 26 Other Washington Senators. The 19-year-old Wynn appeared in only three games with the Senators, and his signature on a 1939 OAL Harridge ball with his teammates is a rarity. Other key signatures are Bucky Harris, Rick Ferrell (signed twice), rookie Mickey Vernon and Elmer Gedeon. An outfielder, Gedeon had a major league career consisting of five games and 15 at bats in 1939 after an outstanding track career at the University of Michigan. Twice he was the Big 10 champion in the 120-yard and 70-yard high hurdles. In 1941, he joined the U.S. Army Air Force, became a bomber pilot, and was killed in a mission over France in 1944. His signature is very scarce in any form. The ball is signed also by Aderholt, Altrock, Appleton, Bass, Bloodworth, Bluege, Case, Early, Evans, Gelbert, Haynes, Holland, Jacobs, Leonard, Lewis, Meyer, Travis, Welaj, West, Wright and possibly Kelley. The strength of the signatures varies. The Wynn autograph, a 9, is one of the strongest on the ball, and so is Nick Altrock’s. The others, including those of Harris, Gedeon and Ferrell, are generally 7s or 7-8s; some are lighter. The stampings on the Harridge ball, which is lightly shellacked and evenly toned, are light but completely readable. With so many late-season additions, such as Wynn and Gedeon, this ball is uncommon and desirable. Authenticated by Kevin Keating.
Winning Bid $267.

Lot 133.  OAL Baseball Signed by 21 Members of the 1942 New York Yankees. This Yankee team captured the A.L. pennant, then lost to St. Louis in the World Series. The team featured five future Hall of Fame members who signed the ball: Joe DiMaggio, Red Ruffing, Bill Dickey, Lefty Gomez and Phil Rizzuto. Other signers are Breuer, Bonham, Rosar, Lindell, Joe Boordon, Borowy, Schulte, Hassett, Priddy, Chandler, Henrich and Rolfe. Many of the signatures are light. Dickey’s signature is the strongest and rates a 7 of 10. Other stronger signatures are those of Gomez, Chandler, Ruffing, Borowy, Schreiber and Breuer. These signatures range from 4-6. The DiMaggio signature is a 3-4 with the last “o” obscured by a stain. The ball has been lightly shellacked, and the stampings are no longer readable. Authenticated by Kevin Keating.
Winning Bid $354.

Lot 134.  ONL Giles Baseball Signed by 23 1956 New York Giants Including Mays. The key autographs are here - John Antonelli, Willie Mays, Red Schoendienst, Hank Thompson and Bill White.
