Single-Signed Baseballs
9 Lots
Lot 1. OAL Pre-1934 Baseball Signed by Lou Gehrig - Authenticated by PSA/DNA. Kevin Keating also authenticated Gehrig’s autograph, which is on the sweet spot. The stampings on this ball, which probably was game-used, are extremely faint; the stitching is red and blue, the colors used on Official American League baseballs before 1934. Except for the “L” in Lou, Gehrig’s signature is strong and warrants an 8 of 10. The top of the “L” is faint. The ball has a stain beside “Lou” and a scuff above the “h” in Gehrig. This is a very desirable single-signed example of Gehrig’s autograph. Letters of authenticity from Collectible Classics with a reference to authentication by Keating and from PSA/DNA, signed by Steve Grad. UPDATE: Based on various examplars, this autograph is consistent with the way Gehrig signed in the 1924-26 period. Consequently, the ball is highly collectible not only because it is single-signed, but also because it is an early, scarce example of Gehrig's autograph.
Winning Bid $7,321.

Lot 2. Extremely Large Babe Ruth Signature Cut Graded Mint 9 by PSA/DNA. If you’re looking for a Ruth autograph to frame with a photo or print, you’ll have a difficult time finding one finer than this. The autograph is about 1” x 2 ¾” on a 2 ½” x 4” section of lined paper. The back of the paper appears to be part of a letter a child sent to Ruth to request an autograph. Ruth’s large, bold signature is written in fountain pen. Magnificent! Authenticated also by Kevin Keating.
Winning Bid $2,541.

Lot 114. OAL Budig Baseball Signed by Jim Catfish Hunter. Bold 10 of 10 ballpoint signature on the sweet spot of a nm ball that has two small spots on the unsigned half well away from the signature. Hunter died in 1999, and baseballs signed by him are increasingly hard to find. Authen- ticated by Kevin Keating.
